Concrete Admixtures

Admixtures are used in the concrete before or during mixing concrete. Concrete admixtures help in improving the quality of the concrete, in addition to enhancing its acceleration, manageability, and retardation of the setting time.

Experts believe concrete mixes contain either one or more admixture concretes which help in the pouring process, thus minimizing the cost and helps in boosting its productivity. The prices of such admixtures depend on the type and the quantity of the admixture that is being used. It is then added to the cubic yard/ meter cost of the concrete.

Admixture set- Retarding: for instance is used in order to delay the chemical reaction especially during the setting process of the concrete. They are also used to minimize the effects of high temperatures and can resist cracking.

Admixture-Air Entertainment: helps in boosting the freeze-thaw durability of the concrete. It also helps in developing a high degree of workability, durability and resists the cycles of drying and wetting.

Water reducing concrete admixtures: these create a desired slump at a lower water-cement ratio. Lower cement content further generates lower CO2 emissions and energy usage per volume of the concrete.

Concrete admixtures-accelerating: is used to augment the rate of concrete strength development and also minimizes the concrete setting time.

Concrete admixture: Superplasticizes aid in producing flowing concrete.

Concrete admixtures-Corrosion Inhibiting: comes under a special category of admixtures and is used to make the process of corrosion slower by reinforcing steel in the concrete.
